Something new is coming to ⚡WIRE Pro.
On August 27, we launch The Scoop: a monthly edit of the news, trends, ideas, people, and job market intelligence shaping running. It’s part newsletter, part experiment, and another step toward making WIRE a go-to resource for people building careers in running.
The name, “The Scoop” has a story…
Before the mid-1800s, news could only travel as fast as the person carrying it. Delivered by horse, ship, and foot, stories might be weeks old by the time readers saw them. To combat the inefficiency, newspapers copied each other, but this led to reporting that was often unreliable and inaccurate.
Then came the telegraph.
The Wire Changes Everything
Samuel Morse’s invention made it possible to transmit information almost instantaneously over long distances. By the late 19th century, news agencies had tapped the power of the telegraph to transform from isolated entities into connected networks.
Since that early era of fixed telegraph lines, through the clattering, chattering teletype machines of the mid-20th century, all the way to modern satellite internet, the world’s news has arrived over “the wire.”
The wire carries the signal.

But There’s One More Element
Wire services like Reuters and The Associated Press (AP) have never told the whole story. They can deliver a steady stream of information into the newsroom, but someone still has to pay attention… To notice the unusual, connect dots, and draw out the most valuable information.
That’s where journalists come in. Every once in a while, if these humans are paying attention, they uncover something nobody else has noticed.
They get the scoop.
After 20 issues of WIRE: The Work in Running Email, I’m realizing I sit in a pretty interesting newsroom. Every day, I see job listings, company announcements, product rollouts, news bites, and interesting ideas from people who understand this business better than I do.
Running is growing and there’s lots of signal. So much signal. Problem is, it’s scattered all around. So, I’m going to start gathering the best and most valuable of what I see and sharing it with you.

Know the Business You Want to Work In
To find well-aligned work in running, the kind of job that leads to a fulfilling career, you need to understand the world you’re entering.
Who’s growing? Where are companies investing? What skills are becoming valuable? Which brands are doing interesting things? What are people inside the industry talking about right now?
That context makes you better at everything that comes next. You’ll spot opportunities earlier. Ask better questions. Have smarter conversations. Walk into interviews understanding the business around the role, not just the bullet points in the job description.
The Scoop, included with ⚡WIRE Pro, will give you that edge.
Help Me Build This Thing
Like WIRE itself, The Scoop is starting as an experiment.
I have a good idea of what belongs in it. But I also want to learn along the way what you find useful. What helps you feel more informed, make a connection, discover an opportunity, or walk into a conversation knowing something you wouldn’t have known otherwise?
What this means for you:
Pro subscribers: You’ll continue to see at least 3x the job listings. Now, every four weeks, you’ll also get The Scoop: industry intel to help you understand the business behind the jobs
Free subscribers: If you’ve been reading WIRE for free and waiting for a reason to go Pro, now is the time. You’ll get more valuable tools, and a chance to help shape what they become
The jobs are why many of you came here. Understanding the industry more completely is how you’ll carve out your place in it.

The Plan
The original promise of the newswire was simple but powerful: bring the important stuff together, make it easier to find, and make it useful.
WIRE and The Scoop carry that idea into running: by filtering out the noise and adding valuable context, this dynamic duo of industry resources helps you spend less time searching and more time on what matters.
I’m committing to four issues of The Scoop, beginning August 27 and landing in your inbox every four weeks until November 19. Along the way, I’ll ask you what’s useful, what isn’t, and what you want more of. After four issues, we’ll take what we’ve learned and decide where to go next.
Together.
You We got this,
-mike
